How Does Spray Foam Insulation Work?

Spray foam insulation can be a great addition to your existing home or office as it is a cost effective method of insulating the building envelope at an affordable price. It is also eco friendly and has a long life expectancy when properly installed. Spray foam insulation, like other types of insulating foam products, is made from a material that is thermally broken down by subjecting it to extremely high temperatures, then reducing it back into a liquid state. The spray foam insulation then seals itself to the internal structure of the building to prevent moisture and air from entering the structure, or leaking out into the air.

How Does Spray Foam Insulation Work?

Spray foam insulation has a wide range of benefits over other methods for insulating the home such as rigid foam boards, duct tape, spray foam board insulation, fiberglass insulation, and other similar products. This is because spray foam insulation has a much longer life span than most other types of insulation because it is designed to be self-cleaning, and it uses a much smaller amount of energy in comparison to these other materials. Also, spray foam insulation has a much higher R-value (thermal resistance) than many other forms of rigid foam products. These factors help make spray foam insulation a much more cost effective choice for the home or office environment.

In order to make spray foam insulation, it must be rolled or sprayed into place, and then it is pressed into the interior walls of the space that is being insulated. The spray foam insulation is then allowed to dry, which will cause it to harden into a rigid form, like a brick, and is typically treated with an anti-static agent so that it will not spray or rub off on any surrounding surfaces. Finally, once the spray foam insulation has been installed, it can be sprayed with the appropriate water-resistant paint for the walls that need to be sprayed.
