When shopping for a body firming lotion, it is important to read the labels and ensure that you purchase the right product for your skin type. Although there is no need to panic as there are many natural body lotions available, be careful as some manufacturers may try to sell you a body firming lotion that is not suitable for your skin. They use clever advertising techniques such as using celebrities with bodies that are models to market their body creams. Unfortunately most women do not have supermodel bodies and although they may be wearing the best clothing and makeup money can buy, the reality is that it is unlikely to show up on the skin. The only way to make sure you are purchasing a safe and effective body lotion is to read the label.

If you are unsure about which body firming lotion is suitable then look for one containing herbal extracts such as wakame, kelp extract or aloe vera. These plants contain vitamins and minerals that are necessary for the healthy function of all the skin’s layers and if the product contains ingredients suitable for these layers then the results will be effective as skin will produce collagen and elastin as well as new skin cells. The more collagen and elastin the body have the better its ability to firm up and tighten up. However, it is also necessary to remember that our skin is a living tissue and as such must continually rejuvenate itself, thus any lotion that contains collagen and elastin is likely to be ineffective.

A good body firming lotion should contain ingredients that stimulate the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid by the body itself, rather than by applying it topically. One example is that wakame kelp extract is a great ingredient that stimulates the production of the firming tissue; however, wakame kelp extract cannot be absorbed directly through the skin and must be supplemented through dietary intake. Another ingredient that is often wrongly included in body firming lotions is called Kaolin. Kaolin is an absorbent metal derived from clay. Its main function is to remove sebum and oil from the surface of the skin but it can also cause irritation in sensitive individuals, so this ingredient should be avoided too.
